SHORT STORY

*I accidentally deleted this post just now so I'm doing it again. I did this short story for my Mid Year Exams so I hope you it*

A decision I regretted

I should not have let him go. I should be the one lying in his place. He does not deserve any of this. This is my fault. It is my fault that my brother is in the hospital. It is my fault that he might not wake up. It is my fault that any of this happened. I regret letting him go. It was the biggest mistake of my life.
"Natalie, you are in charge when we are gone. You have to take care of your brother, make sure everything is done, do not destroy the house and nobody is allowed over," my mother worried over me.
My parents were going on their second honeymoon and they left me in charge. They did not hire a babysitter though. They trusted me to take good care of my brother, Martin. Martin is fourteen and I am nineteen. Nothing could go wrong when I am in charge.
"Mum, you do not have to worry about anything, You and dad just go and enjoy your honeymoon. Just enjoy and do not even think about us," I reassured my mother.
"Ya mum, Nata is right. Go and enjoy yourselves," Martin backed me up.
It took them half and hour to stop worrying and to get into the taxi. I did not blame them for worrying about us. Martin and I were known for making trouble in school and getting into fights outside school. Our parents had been called up twice for all the times we got into trouble. I actually wanted to stay good during their honeymoon, so they would not get called up again or see the house destroyed after they got home.
"So, my dearest sister, when do we get the party started?" Martin casually asked me.
Whenever our parents go out of town or out of the country for more than two days, we would throw a party so awesome, that the whole school would talk about it for a week.
"I want to stay clean for this one. It is their second honeymoon, and I do not want to ruin it by getting into trouble," I told my brother calmly.
I did not wait for his reply and just walked upstairs to my bedroom. I heard footsteps behind me. Martin was going to persuade me into throwing a party.
"They will be gone for the entire week. I am not gonna stay clean for a week. I have a reputation to keep up. It is either we throw a party or I go to Will's party," he tried to negotiate with me.
He could not go to Will's party. Will was a drug addict and an alcoholic. Martin was only fourteen. He could not be drinking. Even I had not started drinking. But I promised I would stay clean.
"We are not throwing a party and you are not allowed to go to that party, but I am gonna let you go anyways. You are right. I said I would stay clean. I did not have to drag you with me. Just call me when you need a pick up," I told him.
He nodded in response then walked back down the stairs and headed straight out the door. I seriously hoped he would not get drunk or get involved with drugs. I should have just let him throw a party. At least then, he would be safe from all the drinks and drugs.
Barely 30 minutes had passed and I received the terrible new. Martin got involved with drugs and he was sent to the hospital. His friend, Jim, told me that Will forced a needle into Martin's arm after Martin refuse to take the drugs or alcohol. I did not even take the time to change and just ran out of the house and drove to the hospital.
"Martin Harrison," I asked the receptionist.
"I'm sorry miss but he is now in a coma. You can visit him in the ICU," the person replied.
I am so sorry Martin. I should not let you go. I am the worst sister ever.
